La parte soft en el ejecutivo de Supply Chain Management

Para que una persona sea competente en cualquier área en términos generales, necesita un 20% de conocimiento, 30% de habilidades y un 50% de actitud. Si el conocimiento es la parte hard que se aprende de la universidad y con la experiencia, entonces la parte soft, un 80%, son las habilidades y la actitud, es decir, nuestra parte soft define el comportamiento necesario para el puesto.

¿Qué es lo que se espera y cuáles son las funciones que tienen que realizar los gerentes de Supply Chain Management (SCM)? Mucha responsabilidad, supervisar gastos que representan entre el 50 y 70% del total de costos de una empresa, maximizar utilidades mejorando la productividad de los activos, incluso identificar nuevas fuentes de generación de ingresos, participar a nivel directorio y cada vez más, manejando un equipo regional o global.

¿Visibilidad o transparencia?

La visibilidad siempre es uno de los grandes retos de la cadena de abastecimiento, y obtenerla en tiempo real a través de todos los niveles de proveedores como clientes puede mejorar la velocidad al mercado, reducir las inversiones, identificar desabastecimientos y problemas de calidad. Sin embargo, muchos no la tienen siquiera en el primer nivel de contacto.

La transparencia está relacionada con qué y cómo se comunica la data a los clientes y proveedores. Visibilidad es importante desde la perspectiva del proveedor y es lo mismo que la transparencia desde el lado del cliente. La realidad es que se necesitan las dos.

Las fuerzas del cambio

El mundo está cambiando rápidamente por 3 fuerzas: la tecnología, la globalización y elcambio climático. Además tres desarrollos estructurales hacen que el cambio sea posible: la introducción de los celulares inteligentes, la expansión del ancho de banda y la conectividad a través de la nube. Estos cambios tienen un impacto en la cadena de abastecimiento global.

Consideren estos tres eventos que no se vislumbraban hace 24 meses: Trump y la renegociación de aranceles, incentivos a fabricar en EE.UU.; el Brexit amenazando a la Comunidad Europea y la militarización de las islas en el Mar del Sur de China, que podría cambiar las reglas de líneas navieras internacionales (1/3 de los embarques globales pasa por ahí). Desde el punto de vista de la cadena de suministros debemos estar atentos a cuatro fuerzas: la tecnología, los consumidores, la fuerza laboral y la infraestructura logística.

¿Qué está cambiando?

La manufactura en Estados Unidos está aumentando, pero con 1.5 millones menos de trabajadores. Se están automatizando labores, ahorrándoles tiempo a los empleados. La inteligencia artificial está rediseñando el trabajo en las operaciones. Los negocios solo han ejecutado 18% de su potencial digital. El agenciamiento de carga está entrando en la etapa digital. El Blockchain ya no solo es para los bitcoins o fintechs (Walmart está haciendo pruebas en su cadena de abastecimiento para agregar estructura a sus procesos).
